Anytime an Olubadan is about to be installed, I always have this sense of personal loss because, perhaps, I would have also been an Olubadan but for the untimely death of my dear beautiful mum, Abeke Ade in 1978. Her death made us to close her flourishing food, beer & Kalo Kalo joint and relocated to Abeokuta & Lagos as teenagers under the motherly care of my dear grandma, Iyagbore.
If not for her death, may be I could have “roole” in Ode Aje and become a Mogaji Okanlomo 1, joined the long traditional queue and from there, providence would take over. I had harem of beautiful Ibadan girlfriends then from whom I could have chosen Bola and 2 or 3 others to become my Oloris and my palace would have been at Ode Aje very close to Ode Aje Oloolu.

I was in love with the ancient city’s culture and tradition and I cautiously participated in all their major traditional festival including Odun Egungun, Odun Aboke, Oose Meji festival as part of my integration and preparation for a higher traditional kingship status in future.
Well, as Yoruba say: “Oni ohun tolorun fise” God’s time is the best.
I wish the incoming Olubadan, Dr. Lekan Balogun, the whole city, Indigenes & other people living in the city a successful reign. But I want to advise the high chiefs aka ex-Obas to pay homage and their last respect to the late Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1, by visiting his family and tomb for final closure to the avoidable ugly and strange incident. Oba Adetunji was a man of courage and principle, he deserved all respect accorded a traditional hero and defender of the culture and tradition he inherited.
What happens to the ex-Obas’crowns? Of course, those crowns become artefacts for the museum in Olubadan palace, Ojaba for historical documentation. Lessons have been learnt and gained. Okebadan a gbe wa o.
